However, the judge ordered an expedited trial process. This decision follows proceedings initiated after arguments from both the EFCC counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, and Gambaryan’s lawyer, Mark Mordi, SAN, on the bail request.
Gambaryan was remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre after pleading not guilty to money laundering charges brought by the EFCC, along with Binance Holdings Limited and another agent, Nadeem Anjarwalla. Anjarwalla had escaped custody earlier.
Mordi had sought bail for Gambaryan, contesting EFCC’s evidence. He argued that the claim of Gambaryan planning an escape lacked credible proof.
In contrast, Iheanacho asserted that Gambaryan posed a flight risk due to lacking ties to the Nigerian community and attempting to secure a new US passport while in custody, despite his passport being seized. He opposed the bail application, citing the risk of flight.
Ultimately, the judge sided with the EFCC, dismissing the bail plea.
