Bizarre Surgery: Doctors Extract Dozens Of Items From Man’s Stomach In Viral Video

Doctors at Devnandani Hospital in Hapur, India, were left stunned after removing an extraordinary 50 objects from the stomach of a 40-year-old man who was admitted earlier this month with severe abdominal pain.

Medical scans revealed dozens of metallic and plastic items inside his abdomen, including 29 steel spoons, 19 toothbrushes, and two pens.

According to reports, the rare and delicate five-hour surgery was performed on September 17 under the leadership of Dr. Shyam Kumar.

“When we conducted the ultrasound, X-ray, and CT scan, we were shocked to find so many metallic and plastic objects inside his stomach. I have never seen such a case in my career,” Dr. Kumar told the Times of India.

Hospital officials disclosed that the patient, who has a history of substance abuse, had been admitted to a de-addiction centre in Ghaziabad about a month before the incident. Angered by his confinement, he allegedly began swallowing household items in protest.

Speaking with reporters, the patient confessed: “I would pick them up and go to the washroom to swallow them.”

During surgery, doctors noted that the spoon heads and toothbrush bristles had been removed before ingestion. “We found about 28 spoon parts, 21 headless toothbrush handles, and two pens,” Dr. Kumar explained.

Medical experts believe the bizarre behaviour may be linked to pica disorder, a psychiatric condition that causes individuals to consume non-food items.

The patient is now recovering, but doctors have emphasized the need for ongoing psychiatric care to prevent a recurrence.
