Bloodshed In Edo: Government Orders Search For Murderers OF Hunters And Suspends Vigilante Leaders

This decision follows a review of the preliminary report on the tragic incident that occurred on Thursday, March 27, 2025, in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area, where several northern travelers were brutally murdered.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Musa Ikhilor, emphasized that the vigilante group involved in the killings was operating illegally, as it was neither profiled nor registered with the Edo State Security Corps. He stated that the group’s actions were in stark contrast to the core values, principles, and objectives of the Okpebholo administration and the Edo State Security Corps Governance Law.

Ikhilor further revealed that a manhunt has been launched to apprehend all those involved in the killings, with 14 suspects already in custody. Investigations are ongoing, and a special team set up by the Inspector General of Police is intensifying efforts to capture the remaining perpetrators.

“The Edo State Government remains committed to ensuring the constitutional right of citizens to move freely and engage in lawful business across the country,” he said. “The government is in close communication with the victims’ families, community leaders, and the Government of Kano State, where most of the deceased are from.”

Ikhilor called for calm and reassured all parties that the state government is dedicated to ensuring that justice is served swiftly, transparently, and effectively.
