According to Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, Chief Military Public Information Officer at HQ MNJTF, former insurgents were transferred to the MNJTF by maritime forces from Cameroon and Niger following a successful operation along Lake Chad.

During the surrender between July 1 and 6 under Operation Lake Sanity 2, 14 fighters and 55 women and children surrendered. One of the fighters surrendered with an AK-45 rifle and live ammunition.

In continuing Operation Lake Sanity 2, the MNJTF facilitated the surrender of additional terrorists and rescued others from hiding places between July 1 and 6, 2024.

On July 6, 2024, a joint maritime operation by Cameroonian and Nigerian forces in Sector 1 Cameroon led to the surrender of 56 Boko Haram terrorists, including 13 adult men accompanied by 43 women and children. Also on the same day, 12 family members of terrorists, including 5 women and 7 children, were rescued. Both surrendered individuals and rescued family members were handed over to Sector 1 troops, Operation Hadin Kai, in Gamboru and Banki for further action.

On July 1, 2024, troops from Sector 4 in Niger Republic received 24-year-old Tijjani Muhammad, who surrendered with one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, and numerous 7.62mm rounds. He reported escaping from a Boko Haram camp in Libye Soroa, influenced by ongoing Operation Lake Sanity 2.

The increasing number of surrenders is significantly weakening Boko Haram’s operational capability and undermining the morale of their remaining fighters. Other terrorists are strongly urged to take advantage of the opportunity to lay down their arms and surrender to the authorities for lasting peace in the Lake Chad basin region.
