Bola Tinubu Wins Praise As Retired Paramilitary Chiefs Hail Lifetime Salary Approval

The policy, approved in 2025, covers former Controller Generals, Commandant Generals, Comptroller Generals, as well as their deputies.
The retirees, drawn from the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service, and the Nigerian Correctional Service, visited the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in Abuja on Wednesday to express their appreciation to the Federal Government for the initiative.
Speaking during the visit, former Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Chukwura Udeh, noted that the approval came after years of delay, adding that previous administrations had failed to address the issue. He said the decision has brought relief to many retired officers who dedicated years to national service.
In his response, Tunji-Ojo stated that the welfare of security and paramilitary personnel remains a priority for the current administration. He emphasised that those who have served the country should be properly catered for after retirement and not left to struggle in old age.
He also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve conditions within the services, noting that clearer career progression paths have been established. According to him, promotion delays and backlogs have been cleared, while promotion examinations are now conducted regularly to ensure fairness and timely advancement.
Tunji-Ojo added that the broader goal is to restore dignity and pride in the uniformed services, ensuring that officers enjoy stability and decent living conditions after years of dedicated service.
Among the retired officers present at the meeting were former NSCDC Commandant General Abdullahi Gana and former Federal Fire Service Controller General Abdulganiyu Jaji, among others.
