During an appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, the 49-year-old actor opened up about his journey as a father since Lea’s birth in March 2017.
Cooper revealed that in the first few months of Lea’s life, he found it challenging to comprehend the intense parental love expressed by others. He admitted feeling uncertain about his own feelings towards his daughter.
“For the first eight months, I don’t even know if I really love the kid,” Cooper shared. “It’s dope. It’s cool. I’m watching this thing morph.”
Reflecting on his experience, the actor acknowledged his fascination with parenthood and his commitment to caring for his daughter. However, he questioned whether he would be willing to sacrifice his life for her.
“But would I die if someone came in with a gun?” Cooper pondered, revealing his initial uncertainty.
Despite his initial doubts, Cooper confessed that his bond with his daughter grew stronger over time. He expressed his dedication to becoming a better person to minimize any potential harm to Lea.
“I’m not sure I’d be alive if I wasn’t a dad,” Cooper admitted, emphasizing the profound impact fatherhood has had on his life.
