Makinde had, during his acceptance speech after securing the presidential ticket of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ibadan on Saturday, expressed concern over his limited capacity to secure the release of abducted schoolchildren and other victims. He noted that his inability to fully control security agencies constrained his response to the situation.

However, in a statement issued on Sunday, the APC spokesperson in the state, Olawale Sadare, rejected the governor’s remarks, insisting that Makinde’s explanation misrepresented the constitutional responsibilities of state governors.

Sadare described the governor’s comments as “a display of incompetence, lack of sincerity, and poor judgment,” arguing that they reflect a misunderstanding of governance and security management in the country.

He further accused Makinde of attempting to shift responsibility for the state’s security challenges and called on him to resign from office, suggesting that his deputy complete the remaining term of the administration.

The statement added that “leaders with narrow perspectives pose a serious threat to societal development and should be rejected by voters in future elections.
