Regrettably, one person remains missing at the time of this report. The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) management disclosed that one passenger sustained an injury, and efforts are ongoing to locate the missing individual.
According to Wuraola Alake from LASWA’s Public Relations Unit, rescue operations are still in progress, with teams from the Search and Rescue Unit of LASWA, the Marine Unit of the Nigerian Police Force, and other relevant agencies actively engaged at the incident site.
The official statement released by LASWA stated, “At about 6.50pm today, Wednesday, 21, 2024, the Tee Ben passenger ferry had a collision with an unforeseen shoreline concrete at a construction site near the power line corridor at the Lekki Ikoyi Link Bridge. Of the 17 passengers on board, approximately 15 have been successfully rescued, with one confirmed casualty. Rescue efforts are ongoing.”
As rescue operations continue, authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of those involved in the accident.
