Breaking: CBN Launches BVN For Nigerians Abroad—Banking Without Borders Begins

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in collaboration with the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), has officially launched the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN)—a secure digital solution aimed at providing seamless banking access for Nigerians living abroad.

In a statement shared on the CBN’s official handle on Wednesday, Governor Olayemi Cardoso described the move as a significant milestone in advancing financial inclusion. He highlighted that the NRBVN underscores Nigeria’s commitment to innovation, inclusive growth, and global economic integration.

According to Naija News, the platform enables Nigerians across the world to conveniently and safely obtain their BVN through digital verification and robust Know Your Customer (KYC) protocols.

Governor Cardoso further explained that the NRBVN offers a unified digital gateway through which Nigerians in the diaspora can open bank accounts, transfer funds securely, and access financial services more affordably and efficiently.

He urged Nigerian banks to develop tailored products for diaspora communities, noting that such initiatives will boost financial inclusion and significantly enhance remittance inflows via official channels.

Reaffirming the CBN’s goal of attracting $1 billion in monthly remittances, Cardoso also emphasized the importance of adherence to the FX Code and regulatory standards to maintain stability and trust in the financial market.

“The NRBVN is more than just a platform—it’s a strategic link between Nigeria and its citizens abroad, reinforcing our dedication to lowering remittance costs and broadening financial access for every Nigerian,” he said.
