Chinda was declared winner on Thursday evening at the APC secretariat after results were collated from wards across the 23 local government areas of Rivers State.

Announcing the outcome, the Chairman of the Screening Committee, Bitrus Kwamoti, said Chinda secured 268,497 votes to clinch the ticket.

Kwamoti described the exercise as peaceful and successful, commending party members for their conduct and noting that the process was completed without major incidents.

The announcement came shortly after Governor Siminalayi Fubara withdrew from the APC governorship primary scheduled for the same day.

Fubara had earlier announced his withdrawal in a statement personally signed on Wednesday night, saying the decision followed extensive consultations with family, friends and political associates. He also pledged support for whoever emerged as the party’s candidate.

Another aspirant, Tonye Cole, also stepped down from the race. Cole announced his withdrawal in a statement issued on Wednesday, May 20, citing the need for peace, reconciliation and respect for party supremacy.
