Horst Köhler, who served as Germany’s head of state from 2004 to 2010, passed away on Saturday at the age of 81 after a brief illness.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement, the German presidency announced, “Köhler passed away early this morning in Berlin after a short, serious illness, surrounded by his family.”

Born on February 22, 1943, in Skierbieszów—then under Nazi occupation—Köhler was of German descent. His family later moved to Leipzig in East Germany before fleeing to West Germany in 1953. He spent his early years in Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg.

Köhler pursued higher education at the University of Tübingen, earning a doctorate in economics in 1977. Before his presidency, he held key international roles, including serving as Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from 2000 to 2004.

His tenure as Germany’s president ended in 2010 when he resigned following controversy over comments regarding Germany’s military involvement abroad.

Meanwhile, in Ghana, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has suspended four lawmakers for two weeks following a violent altercation during a ministerial vetting session.

The clash occurred on Thursday evening when members of the vetting committee, responsible for screening nominees from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), engaged in a heated confrontation.
