Breaking: Gunmen Invade Political Meeting, APC Aspirant Escapes By Whisker

Sources said the incident occurred on Tuesday at Halims Hotel, where party stakeholders had gathered to discuss a consensus candidate for the upcoming Assembly election.

According to reports, the aspirant was nearly attacked at close range by a suspected gunman identified as “Achiever Bobby,” who is alleged to be linked to a lawmaker.

The situation was said to have been averted after a police officer stationed at the venue noticed suspicious movements and intervened before the attack could be carried out.

Witnesses claimed the suspect had already aimed a rifle at the aspirant before the officer stepped in, preventing what could have turned deadly.

The incident reportedly sparked panic at the venue, with attendees scrambling for safety as security operatives moved in to restore order.

Sources added that three suspects were arrested at the scene and taken into police custody in Lokoja for questioning. Those reportedly detained were identified as Bobby Achiever, Obobo 7 from Anyigba, and Ododo Mohammed from Ankpa.

A search of one suspect’s vehicle allegedly led to the recovery of weapons, including guns, cutlasses and an axe.

While the motive behind the alleged attack remains unclear, sources linked the incident to growing political tension within the APC over the selection of a consensus candidate for the Ankpa II seat.

There were also claims that some party members were attempting to downplay the incident to avoid negative publicity for the party.
