This vital access road into Makurdi has forced travelers to halt their journeys or seek temporary shelter in safer areas. The flooding comes at a critical moment, clashing with heightened security and logistical arrangements for the President’s one-day visit to Benue. The visit is meant to commiserate with communities affected by the recent massacre in Yelewata.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Senate has decried the renewed wave of violence and killings in Benue, calling for decisive and coordinated efforts to end the bloodshed. Speaking on Tuesday, Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu emphasized the urgent need for lasting solutions, stressing that both federal and state authorities, along with local communities and security agencies, must work together to restore peace.
“We’re tired of condolence visits. The killings must stop,” Adaramodu said, announcing that a Senate delegation will visit affected communities to console victims and engage stakeholders.
He further expressed the Senate’s full backing for President Tinubu’s visit, describing it as a significant step toward reinforcing peace-building initiatives.
