Breaking: INEC Confirms Official Number Of Registered Voters Ahead Of Anambra Polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the completion of the final register of voters ahead of the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election.

In a statement issued on Thursday after its weekly meeting, the Commission confirmed that voter registration was successfully carried out across all 326 wards in Anambra between July 8 and 20, 2025.

A total of 168,187 citizens initially registered during the exercise. However, according to INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) detected 27,817 cases of duplicate or multiple registrations, which were removed.

“This leaves the number of valid new registrants at 140,370, alongside 5,983 valid transfer applications into the state, bringing the total number of new voters to 146,353,” Olumekun stated.

Before the latest registration exercise, Anambra had 2,656,437 registered voters. With the new additions, the state’s voters’ roll now stands at 2,802,790.

A breakdown by local government shows:

• Idemili North – 246,318 voters (8.79%), the highest in the state

• Awka South – 216,611 voters (7.73%)

• Ogbaru – 188,016 voters (6.71%)

• Dunokofia – 83,580 voters (2.98%)

• Anambra West – 71,332 voters (2.55%), the lowest in the state.

INEC assured that all Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for new registrants and transfers will be ready for collection ahead of the election. The list of newly registered voters has already been displayed at ward levels for public claims and objections, in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.
