In a statement issued on Thursday by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC said political campaigns in the state will now end at midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
The Commission explained that the adjustment complies with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates that election campaigns must conclude at least 24 hours before election day.
INEC further stated that the change follows the updated timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, which shifted the Osun governorship election forward by one week—from August 8, 2026, to August 15, 2026.
According to the Commission, the revision was necessary to align all electoral activities with the new schedule.
It urged all political parties, candidates, and stakeholders to strictly comply with the updated campaign timeline to ensure a smooth electoral process.
The statement read in part that the earlier timetable issued on February 26, 2026, had already reflected the adjustment of the Osun governorship election date.
INEC reiterated that campaigns must end 24 hours before the election as required by law, hence the new deadline of August 13, 2026.
The Commission also reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections across the country.
