According to Daily Independent, her resignation was conveyed in a letter dated May 31, 2026, and addressed to the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi.

Prior to her exit, Obasanjo had alleged that her supporters were denied access to the Ogun APC caucus meeting that produced Senator Solomon Adeola as the party’s consensus governorship candidate.

Following her complaint, Adeola reportedly paid a reconciliation visit to her, after which she pledged continued support for the party.

However, in her resignation letter, Obasanjo cited what she described as persistent disrespect, rejection, and unfair treatment by the party leadership, despite her loyalty and contributions.

She expressed disappointment over how her political ambitions were handled and the treatment of her supporters within the party structure.

“A famous person once said that when disrespect is the only dish served, then one should leave the table. I am therefore leaving the APC table where I am not welcomed. This is my resignation from the party,” she stated.

Obasanjo recalled her involvement in the party’s consensus arrangement during the governorship primary process, noting that although she accepted the outcome in the interest of unity, she believed the process was flawed and did not adequately include all aspirants.

She further alleged that violence was used to prevent some of her supporters from accessing the venue where the consensus candidate was announced.

She also lamented that her contributions and political efforts across Ogun State were not acknowledged.

According to her, after accepting the party’s decision, she and her supporters met with the eventual candidate and presented three requests. However, she claimed that months later, no response had been received, describing it as part of a pattern of neglect.

Despite her resignation, Obasanjo expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Yemi Sanusi, and leaders of the APC in Ogun Central for their support and courtesy during her time in the party.
