Breaking: Kaduna Judge Recuses Self from El-Rufai Suit, Puts Case On Hold
Justice Belgore has handed over the case file of the fundamental human rights enforcement suit filed by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory for reassignment.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The development follows the judge’s decision to proceed on leave.
The court had initially adjourned proceedings on Wednesday, February 25, to Friday for the hearing of El-Rufai’s bail application. However, during Friday’s sitting, Justice Belgore announced that he would be going on leave and therefore returned the case file to the FCT Chief Judge for allocation to another judge.
The suit was filed to enforce El-Rufai’s fundamental human rights against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Attorney-General of the Federation.
According to a statement by his Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, on February 27, El-Rufai has been in custody since voluntarily reporting to the EFCC on Monday, February 16, 2026, and was later transferred to ICPC custody on the night of February 18.
With the reassignment, a new date for the hearing of the bail application will be set once the case is allocated to a different judge.
El-Rufai’s legal team continues to push for enforcement of his rights amid his ongoing detention by the anti-graft agencies.
