Breaking: Kano South Lawmakers Defy Gov Yusuf, Trigger Political Showdown

The meeting, chaired by Senator Kawu Sumaila, brought together several prominent House of Representatives members, including Alhassan Doguwa, Kabiru Rurum, Abdulmumin Jibrin, and Abdullahi Rogo.

This development follows reports that Sumaila and Rurum declined an invitation from Governor Yusuf to attend a broader meeting with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both state and national levels.

Their absence has intensified speculation about deepening divisions within Kano State’s political landscape.

According to sources familiar with the gathering, which took place on Monday at Senator Sumaila’s office in Abuja, the lawmakers engaged in extensive discussions about their political direction.

The legislators reportedly voiced concerns over what they described as neglect of the Kano South zone by the state government.

They also alleged that key political decisions affecting the region have been made without adequate consultation with stakeholders.

One source said, “We are engaging with current and former lawmakers, as well as former party leaders from our zone who have been sidelined.”

The lawmakers are also said to be consulting with business leaders, religious figures, and other influential stakeholders from Kano South as they consider their next steps.

Another source revealed that the aggrieved lawmakers may seek a meeting with Governor Yusuf to present their concerns and possible solutions.

While there is no confirmation that they intend to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), sources suggest they could take a firm political stance if their grievances remain unresolved.
