In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 28, the government said there is no basis for the report suggesting the governor was pressured to step down over health-related concerns. It dismissed the claim as fabricated and aimed at creating unnecessary tension in the state.

The Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, said the story is part of what he described as a pattern of misinformation circulating online. He stressed that Sanwo-Olu is in good health and continues to perform his duties without interruption.

According to him, the governor remains fully active in office and is both physically and mentally fit to lead the state, adding that governance in Lagos is ongoing without disruption.

Akosile stated: “This report is false in its entirety. Nobody has asked the Lagos Governor to resign—this is another fake news, which has become a pattern. Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, of sound mind, and is actively discharging his duties as Governor of Lagos State.”

The clarification follows viral claims alleging that the governor was under pressure to resign, with speculation that his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, was being positioned to take over.

Akosile further explained that there is no such arrangement or directive, insisting that the reports were designed to mislead the public.

He also addressed a recent meeting between the governor and his deputy, describing it as routine political engagement. According to him, discussions at the meeting included normal governance matters and the deputy governor’s political consultations ahead of 2027.

The government maintained that the meeting was cordial and should not be linked to any health concerns or leadership crisis involving the governor.
