A female health worker identified as Florence Vandi, stationed at the Primary Health Care Centre in Girei Local Government Area (LGA) of Adamawa State, has reportedly taken her own life in response to the death of her boyfriend.
Florence, a 22-year-old resident of Viniklang in Girei LGA and originally from Michika LGA, is said to have ingested a local substance suspected to be the toxic insecticide known as Sniper.
According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the tragic incident occurred on December 12, 2023, just a few hours after the demise of her boyfriend, Nuhu Boniface, who passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Nguroje stated, “Investigation further revealed that until her death, Florence was a health worker attached to Girei Primary Health Care Centre.
Expressing sorrow over the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and encouraged them to report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods to the police.
