In a formal resignation letter dated December 8, 2024, and addressed to the party’s state chairman in Yenagoa, Eradiri explained that his departure was prompted by his desire to continue his political career on a platform more capable of providing the leadership Bayelsa urgently needs. The letter, titled “Letter of Withdrawal as Labour Party Member,” expressed Eradiri’s gratitude to the party members who supported his bid for a better Bayelsa and allowed him to contest as the governorship candidate.
However, he noted the challenges within the party, stating, “But unfortunately, we couldn’t scale through the intrigues and challenges implanted in the party leadership,” reflecting on the difficulties he encountered during his campaign. He also acknowledged the deep connections formed with his supporters throughout the state, emphasizing their shared vision for impactful leadership.
Eradiri, who placed third in the Bayelsa governorship race, confirmed that his decision had the support of his loyal followers.
Similarly, his running mate, Commodore Benjamin Nathus (retd), also submitted his resignation letter. In his letter, Nathus expressed a desire to align with a platform dedicated to driving Bayelsa toward growth and prosperity. He thanked the Labour Party members for their support, saying, “I am profoundly grateful for the support and camaraderie of the party members who have shared in our vision for a thriving Bayelsa and graciously provided me the opportunity to serve as deputy governorship candidate.”
Nathus reflected on his time working with committed colleagues and community members, calling it an honor. He reiterated that his mission for transformative governance in Bayelsa remained unchanged.
Eradiri confirmed that discussions were underway to identify a new political platform that would better enable him to serve Bayelsa’s people. “We are consulting seriously and engaging all stakeholders to know the next political party to join. Our next party of interest will be one that allows us to provide service to the people and move Bayelsa forward,” he affirmed.
