Breaking News: Former Minister Mandated To Apologize Following Court Ruling On Anti-Judiciary Remark

A Federal Capital Territory High Court has ruled that former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Pauline Tallen, made unconstitutional, reckless, and disparaging comments against a court judgment. The judgment in question nullified the candidacy of Aishatu Binani as the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in the state. Tallen, speaking at her alma mater’s Annual General Meeting, referred to the judgment as a “kangaroo judgment.

In response to her comments, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) demanded Tallen to retract her statements and issue an apology within seven days. When she refused, the NBA initiated legal proceedings against her. The court, in its recent judgment, found her comments contemptuous.

The NBA’s spokesperson, Akorede Lawal, stated that the court ordered Tallen to publish a personally signed apology letter in The PUNCH and Guardian Newspapers, warning that failure to comply could result in her being barred from holding any public office in the country. The court further issued an injunction restraining Tallen from holding public office unless she publishes the apology letter within 30 days. The NBA emphasized its commitment to upholding and defending the integrity of the judiciary, ensuring accountability for those who attempt to denigrate it
