The 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Amb. Iliya Damagum as the party’s substantive National Chairman. The session, which commenced at 2 pm, focused on key issues, including the report of the National Zoning Committee and preparations for the party’s upcoming national convention.
Party insiders told Punch that today’s meeting represents a pivotal moment for the PDP as it positions itself ahead of the 2027 general elections. The discussions underscore the party’s renewed commitment to offering Nigerians a credible opposition and preparing for electoral victory.
During the NEC meeting, the fate of some top members accused of anti-party activities, including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, is expected to be determined.
The disciplinary committee led by Tom Ikimi has already submitted its report to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), recommending sanctions against members found to have acted against the PDP during the last general elections.
Also high on the agenda is the party’s national convention, scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, where new national officers will be elected.
