Addressing the issue on Monday after inspecting a dismantled billboard on Lagos Street, Shaibu expressed his discontent, highlighting that such destructive acts were detrimental to the democratic growth of the state. He conveyed that the ultimate decision on the next governor lies with the Edo people and urged for a cessation of the billboard destruction.
Visibly agitated at the scene of the dismantled billboard around Ring Road, Shaibu revealed that this wasn’t the first occurrence, as his campaign billboards had been targeted twice at the same location. He disclosed that he had diligently secured all the billboard stands since June 2023, having entered into agreements and paid in full.
The deputy governor stressed the potential negative impact of such actions, asserting that it could discourage private investors from the state. He emphasized the need for careful consideration in governmental and individual actions to maintain a conducive environment for development.
Shaibu announced plans to promptly replace the damaged billboard and expressed hope that it would not face further tampering. He warned against provocation, emphasizing the patience exercised thus far, and called for a commitment to peace throughout the electoral process. Concluding his statement, he underlined the importance of maintaining the peaceful nature of Edo State, both before and after the upcoming election.
