The confirmation was made in a statement by the Corporation’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Kayode Opeifa.

Earlier reports indicated that a passenger train travelling from Kaduna to Abuja was involved in a collision along the rail corridor. Opeifa later verified that the incident happened near Asham Train Station on the Abuja–Kaduna line.

According to him, the accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. and involved a rear locomotive making contact with the coach directly behind it due to a coupling malfunction.

He stated that passengers who sustained injuries were immediately given medical attention and taken to nearby health facilities for treatment. No deaths were recorded in the incident.

The statement further noted that the train eventually arrived at Idu Train Station at approximately 10:39 a.m., about 38 minutes behind schedule, after the affected locomotive and coach were removed.

The Corporation reassured the public that safety remains its top priority and said all necessary steps are being taken to address the situation and maintain secure train operations, adding that further updates will be released as more details become available.
