Confirming the receipt of the letter from Governor Akeredolu, the Assembly cited Section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) as the legal basis for Aiyedatiwa’s assumption of the acting governor role. Speaker Olamide Oladiji clarified that Aiyedatiwa would continue to act until there is a written declaration to the contrary.

The Speaker announced, “The leave is expected to commence on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.” Expressing gratitude for the governor’s speedy recovery, Oladiji expressed optimism about Akeredolu’s return to duty.

Meanwhile, Aiyedatiwa returned to the state after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu and political stakeholders regarding the ongoing political logjam in the state. His arrival was noted at Akure Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

The absence of Governor Akeredolu had led to heightened political tension and calls for power to be transmitted to Aiyedatiwa for the smooth governance of the state. This situation also resulted in divisions within the State Executive Council, with some commissioners aligning with Aiyedatiwa, accompanied by allegations of the forgery of the governor’s signature.
