The Delta State Police Command has arrested five individuals, including the community head and the alleged chief organiser of a reported sexual assault incident during an annual festival in Ozoro.
The arrests followed a directive from the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, who ordered a comprehensive investigation after viral videos surfaced online showing groups of young men allegedly attacking women during the festival, tearing their clothing and subjecting them to various forms of sexual molestation.
In an official update shared on , the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed that the community head and event organiser has been identified as Chief Omorede Sunday.
According to Edafe, Chief Sunday and four other suspects from the Oramudu quarters in Ozoro have been taken into custody.
He further stated that the Commissioner of Police has directed their immediate transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department, stressing that all those involved will be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice.
“The community head and chief organiser of the event, Chief Omorede Sunday, and four others from Oramudu quarters in Ozoro have been arrested. The CP has ordered their immediate transfer to the State CID and vowed that anyone involved will be arrested and prosecuted,” Edafe wrote.
