The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has elected Salimon Oladiti as its new President, ushering in a new leadership phase for the influential oil workers’ union. Oladiti, a former National Trustee of the union, secured the position during the union’s 6th Quadrennial Delegates Conference held in Lagos on Friday.
According to reports by TVC News, the election was conducted as part of the ongoing conference, which has drawn delegates from across the country to deliberate on the future of the union and the oil and gas sector. Oladiti’s emergence is seen as a significant development for NUPENG, given his long-standing involvement in union affairs.
In a related development, former Chairman of the Oil and Gas Supply branch, Akin Oladejo, was elected Deputy President of the union. The new leadership is expected to steer the union through key industry challenges while advancing the interests of petroleum and natural gas workers nationwide.
