The approved measures include the repeal of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (Establishment) Act and the enactment of the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill 2025, as well as the Nigeria Revenue Service Bill 2025.
These bills were adopted following a detailed clause-by-clause review during the Committee of the Whole and subsequently advanced through a third reading on the Senate floor.
Originally submitted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in October 2024, the tax reform proposals aim to overhaul Nigeria’s fiscal framework and streamline revenue collection.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio described the move as a significant stride toward improved governance and economic reform.
“These bills will bring tremendous value to public administration and revamp our tax collection and distribution systems,” Akpabio stated.
He also reiterated the Senate’s determination to finalize the remaining bills by Thursday, emphasizing their readiness to work late into the evening if necessary.
“We are fully prepared to finish the remaining bills tomorrow, even if it means sitting here until 10 p.m.,” he affirmed.
