Tambuwal made the remarks on Thursday during the launch of a food distribution programme for his supporters and residents in Sokoto.
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives stated that the move reflects a shared determination to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy and promote accountable governance. He noted that many Nigerians are seeking purposeful leadership that can restore confidence in the political system.
According to him, the decision to switch parties followed extensive consultations with seasoned politicians and academics to evaluate the country’s political direction. He described the process as deliberate and carefully considered.
Tambuwal observed that the current political environment appears increasingly polarized between supporters of the present administration and those dissatisfied with governance, corruption, and perceived inefficiencies at different levels of government, including in Sokoto State.
He warned that discussions during the consultations raised concerns that the nation’s political trajectory could gradually lead toward dominance by a single party, a development he described as unhealthy for democracy.
The former governor also said internal challenges and weakened structures within the PDP made it difficult for the party to operate effectively.
He disclosed that approximately 1,900 stakeholders were consulted before a unanimous agreement was reached to adopt the ADC as their new political platform.
Tambuwal expressed confidence that the realignment would strengthen democratic competition and offer Nigerians credible alternatives in future elections.
