In a statement to Naija News titled “That Edo May Win,” Osa-Ogbegie said the decision followed discussions with friends, associates, political leaders, and members of his family and community.

He emphasized that politics should primarily serve as a platform for advancing the welfare of the people. When circumstances demand a reassessment of political affiliation to continue contributing meaningfully to society, leaders must be willing to make difficult choices.

“After careful reflection and wide consultations with friends, associates, political leaders, and members of my immediate family and community, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to step down my membership of the PDP,” he said.

Osa-Ogbegie acknowledged that his time in the PDP provided valuable experiences and relationships, expressing gratitude to party leaders and members who worked toward strengthening democratic ideals and promoting development in Edo State.

However, he said the current political situation required honest reflection on the state of the opposition in the country. The lawyer noted that opposition parties have struggled to organize with sufficient cohesion and direction to offer a credible political alternative, with few credible aspirants emerging as party nomination deadlines approach.

He explained that his decision was also influenced by his observations of the emerging administration of Monday Okpebholo. In the interest of the state, he believes supporting the new government will contribute to stability and development.

“Senator Okpebholo is not a stranger to me. He is personally a friend and a brother. If he succeeds, Edo succeeds. And when Edo succeeds, we all succeed,” he said.

Osa-Ogbegie stressed that political platforms may change, but the responsibility of leadership must remain focused on advancing the common good. He added that the ultimate goal of politics is not the victory of one party over another, but the progress of the people.

“For in the final analysis, the triumph that truly matters is not the victory of one party over another, but the victory of Edo State itself,” he said.

He expressed hope that his decision would contribute to unity, stability, and development in the state. “If by this decision Edo moves one step closer to stability, progress, and dignity, then the choice would have been worth making. God bless Edo State.”
