According to John Budensiek of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. local time on Friday, March 27.
Authorities said Woods was behind the wheel of a Land Rover when he attempted to overtake a truck at high speed. The vehicle reportedly veered off and flipped onto its side during the manoeuvre.
Budensiek noted that Woods displayed signs of impairment at the scene. Although a breathalyser test came back negative, he declined to undergo a urinalysis test, leading to additional charges.
As a result, he has been charged with DUI, property damage, and refusal to comply with a lawful test.
Under Florida law, Woods is required to remain in custody for a minimum of eight hours before he can be released on bail. The charges are classified as misdemeanours.
Police confirmed that Woods was alone in the vehicle and no injuries were recorded. The truck involved in the incident was towing a pressure cleaner trailer, and its driver reportedly attempted to avoid the collision but had limited space to do so.
Officers added that Woods exited the vehicle through the passenger side before they arrived, though it is unclear if he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Officials described him as appearing lethargic at the scene, possibly due to impairment, and warned that the situation could have been far more severe under different circumstances.
This latest incident marks the fourth time since 2009 that Woods has been involved in a serious road-related event, and the second DUI-related case since 2017.
