BREAKING: Tinubu Announces New Heads For NPF, NSCDC As Top Officials Step Down

In the latest appointments, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed has been named the new Director-General of the NIA, succeeding Ahmed Abubakar. Meanwhile, Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi has been appointed as the new Director-General of the DSS, replacing Yusuf Magaji Bichi.

According to the statement, Ambassador Mohammed brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having joined the NIA in 1995 and held various significant positions, including his most recent role as the head of the Nigerian mission to Libya. He is a 1990 graduate of Bayero University, Kano, and has also served in countries such as North Korea, Pakistan, and Sudan, as well as within the State House in Abuja.

The new DSS Director-General, Mr. Adeola Ajayi, has risen through the ranks within the service, previously holding key positions such as State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi. His most recent position was as Assistant Director-General.

These appointments come in the wake of the resignation of the previous heads of the NIA and DSS. President Tinubu has expressed confidence that the newly appointed leaders will leverage their extensive experience to enhance the effectiveness of their respective agencies, particularly in addressing the nation’s security challenges. The President also emphasized the importance of collaboration with other security agencies and alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

The President also extended his gratitude to the outgoing Directors-General for their service and wished them success in their future endeavors.

It should be noted that former NIA DG Ahmed Abubakar tendered his resignation letter to President Tinubu on Saturday evening, citing personal and family reasons for his decision. Abubakar, who had served as NIA Director-General since 2018, expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for allowing him to continue in the role during the first 15 months of the new administration. He reassured the President of his continued commitment to the country’s security matters.

Abubakar stated, “There are a number of reasons one would resign, including personal family matters, but nothing too serious. I had a discussion with Mr. President, and he was very understanding. I promised to remain committed to addressing the security challenges in our country.”

After briefing the President on current security issues, Abubakar’s resignation was graciously accepted by Tinubu. He concluded by thanking the President for the opportunity to serve under his leadership, describing it as a rare and rewarding experience.
