BREAKING: Tragedy Hits As Imo Army Recruitment Candidates Are Involved In Road Crash

Several candidates recently recruited into the Nigerian Army from Imo State have sustained varying degrees of injuries following a road accident involving the vehicle conveying them to the Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The incident occurred on Saturday while the candidates were travelling to the military training institution to commence their basic recruit training.

According to reports from credible military sources, the journey was being coordinated under the supervision of Lieutenant Colonel P.D. Ngal when the accident occurred. The recruits had successfully completed the Nigerian Army recruitment process and were on their way to begin the next phase of their military training before the unfortunate incident disrupted their journey.

Eyewitness videos circulating online showed several injured candidates lying along the roadside and inside the damaged vehicle as emergency responders, alongside other road users, worked to rescue and evacuate the victims. Those injured were subsequently transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to officially confirm the cause of the accident or provide details regarding the number of casualties.

Military sources expressed concern that the accident could affect the future of some of the injured recruits, explaining that candidates who suffer severe injuries before or during training may be declared medically unfit to continue with the recruitment programme.

According to the sources, recruits with serious fractures or other medical conditions that prevent them from participating in the physically demanding military training are typically withdrawn from the programme on medical grounds.

The Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria serves as the primary training institution for newly recruited non-commissioned soldiers, where successful applicants undergo several months of intensive military training before being formally enlisted into the Nigerian Army.

Military officials further clarified that recruits undergoing training at the depot are distinct from cadets of the Nigerian Defence Academy, who receive officer training.

The Nigerian Army had not released an official statement regarding the accident as of the time this report was filed.
