At Wednesday’s proceedings before the Federal High Court in Abuja, it was disclosed that the NMA panel set up to assess Kanu’s fitness to stand trial has yet to complete its work.
Justice James Omotosho had, on September 26, directed the NMA President to constitute a team of medical experts to evaluate Kanu’s health and determine whether he is medically fit to continue facing his terrorism trial.
However, prosecution counsel Suraj Sa’ada (SAN) informed the court that the panel had not finished its assignment and requested additional time for a comprehensive report. He urged that the panel be granted one more week to conclude its task.
Kanu’s lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), raised no objection to the application.
Consequently, Justice Omotosho adjourned the case to October 16 for further hearing.
