Speaking to newsmen in Katsina on Sunday after participating in Eid prayers with the Emir of Daura, Dr. Faruk Umar Faruk, Buhari praised Nigerians who have taken up farming to address rising food prices and ensure national food security.
He said, “I wish everyone a Happy Sallah. May this special festival bring joy, prosperity, and good health to all. This is not the time to relent as prices go up. Let us buy what is produced in the country.”
Buhari appealed to citizens to strive for self-reliance by growing their own food, noting that successive governments have laid the foundation for a prosperous and stable country.
He encouraged the youth to actively participate in nation-building and draw inspiration from the nation’s founding fathers and regional personalities.
Reflecting on the large gatherings at Eid celebrations, Buhari expressed concern about unchecked population growth, highlighting the need for greater discussion, awareness, and investment in education and health.
He encouraged Nigerians to support each other during these times, saying, “Considering the situation in the country, and in the spirit of Sallah, let us help one another and be our brother’s keepers. I wish everyone a happy Sallah.”
In celebration of Sallah, the former President donated a cow, 10 bags of rice, and cash to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who visited him.
