Buhari Was So Stubborn” – Tinubu Opens Up On Past Clashes With Former President

President Bola Tinubu has opened up about his past disagreements with the late former President Muhammadu Buhari during the early days of forming the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday while receiving members of The Buhari Organisation (TBO), led by former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Tanko Al-Makura, Tinubu described Buhari as a “stubborn man,” recalling their clashes over the choice of the APC symbol.

“We disagreed to agree. We even argued about a symbol. He (Buhari) insisted on parliament, and I insisted on broom. He’s so stubborn,” Tinubu said.

Despite those disputes, he explained that compromises were eventually reached, leading to the merger of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), and a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), which birthed the APC in 2013.

In another development, Tinubu said his administration would not be intimidated by the trade policies of United States President Donald Trump, stressing that Nigeria’s rising non-oil revenue would shield the economy from external shocks.

“If non-oil revenue is growing, then we have no fear of whatever Trump is doing on the other side,” he declared.

The President noted that Nigeria had already surpassed its 2025 revenue target as of August 2025, while reforms in the foreign exchange market had stabilised the naira, which appreciated from ₦1,900 to about ₦1,450 per dollar following his government’s decision to unify the exchange rates in May 2023.
