Bwala observed that only second-term governors are publicly criticizing the bills, while first-term governors have remained silent. He emphasized that governors should refrain from airing grievances publicly or criticizing the bills openly. Instead, they should communicate their concerns through their state’s National Assembly representatives in both the Senate and House of Representatives, who can address the issues at the legislative level.

Expressing disappointment, Bwala remarked that some governors appear to be politicizing the bills rather than approaching the matter constructively.

Speaking during an interview with TVC, Bwala highlighted that President Tinubu has undertaken extensive consultations regarding the bills, showcasing his collaborative approach to governance.

“In a proper democratic governance process, the President sponsors an executive bill, which is then deliberated upon within the National Assembly,” Bwala explained. “Ordinarily, discussions should remain within that framework.”

He added, “Every governor has at least three senators and several House of Representatives members. Whatever concerns they have should be channeled through these representatives to the National Assembly for deliberation.”

Bwala noted that, despite this standard procedure, President Tinubu went the extra mile by ensuring the tax reform team engaged with all critical stakeholders, including governors, the private sector, and students, to ensure inclusivity.
