CAN Directs Religious Leaders To Review Testimonies Before Public AnnouncementsThe Lagos State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has directed the leadership of the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries to revise how members present testimonies during gatherings.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This follows CAN’s condemnation of a viral testimony shared by a church member in the preceding week. In the testimony, the member claimed that an elderly man appeared to her in an exam hall and provided answers to exam questions, which she then shared with another student from the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries.
Bishop Stephen Adegbite, the Lagos CAN Chairman, labeled the testimony as a fabrication. He announced that CAN would summon the church leadership for a critical meeting to address the issue of misleading testimonies.
Speaking with Saturday PUNCH on Thursday, Adegbite confirmed that the meeting had taken place. The church has since been instructed to revise its testimony-sharing process. “We had the meeting last Friday at the CAN secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja. Representatives from the church were present, and we advised them to review their testimony protocols. Only a madman would think otherwise,” he said.
He further mentioned that all five bloc leaders of CAN, as well as representatives from all 57 local government areas in Lagos, attended the meeting, which had over 100 participants. During the meeting, there was unanimous agreement to reject any unreasonable or misleading testimonies that could tarnish the image of Christianity.
“We advised church leaders to vet members’ testimonies before giving them the platform to speak. If the testimony isn’t fit for public sharing, it should be stopped. God still performs miracles, but we must ensure the truth is always told,” Adegbite concluded.
