Abuja, Nigeria – August 8, 2025

In a landmark move set to ignite Nigeria’s agricultural transformation, the Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA) has sealed a strategic alliance with Green Agriculture West Africa Limited (GAWAL) to revolutionize the cassava value chain — a bold initiative directly aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the National Food Security Programme.

This game-changing partnership marks a turning point for Nigeria’s quest for agro-industrial excellence, focusing on large-scale cassava cultivation, cutting-edge mechanization, and high-value processing that will drastically reduce post-harvest losses, boost exports, and create thousands of jobs across rural communities.

A Visionary Step Forward

Speaking during a high-level engagement at GAWAL’s Abuja headquarters, BORBDA Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Femi Adekanmbi, declared:

> “This is not just about farming — this is about national transformation. We are aligning with Mr. President’s mandate to reposition River Basin Authorities as drivers of food production and rural prosperity. With GAWAL, we’re ushering in a cassava revolution powered by technology, innovation, and hope.”

The partnership will fast-track the deployment of advanced equipment for land preparation, precision planting, mechanized harvesting, and industrial processing — enabling Nigeria to unlock the full economic potential of cassava, one of its most strategic crops.

GAWAL Brings the Tech Muscle

GAWAL, led by Managing Director Mr. Wang Jun, showcased a powerful suite of mechanized solutions and pledged full technical support, including equipment training and long-term servicing for BORBDA teams.

> “We are not just delivering machines — we are delivering impact,” said Mr. Wang. “This partnership is a mission to empower Nigerian farmers, strengthen food systems, and drive agro-industrial growth in full support of the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda

This alliance is more than a technical collaboration — it is a clear demonstration of BORBDA’s aggressive reform under the visionary leadership of Dr. Adekanmbi. Fresh from an international study tour of rice systems in Thailand, the Authority has wasted no time in translating lessons into action, placing Nigeria on the path to self-sufficiency in cassava production and processing.

From Policy to Prosperity

> “This is the Renewed Hope Agenda in action,” said Mr. Osikela Omo-Ikirodah, BORBDA’s Technical Director for PPP and Development Partners. “We are building a new BORBDA — one that delivers value, empowers farmers, and fuels agro-industrialization for a new Nigeria.”

The Bottom Line?

Cassava is no longer just a staple — it’s the future of Nigerian agriculture.
BORBDA is no longer just an agency — it’s now a catalyst for national development.
The Renewed Hope Agenda is no longer a vision — it is unfolding, farm by farm, harvest by harvest.

Stay tuned. The cassava revolution has begun — and Nigeria will never be the same again.
