Century Club! Nigerian Stars Who’ve Reached 100 Appearances For Multiple European Giants

Across Europe’s top five leagues—England, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain—only a select few Nigerian footballers have achieved the rare feat of making at least 100 appearances for more than one club in these elite competitions.

Here’s a look at the Nigerians who have reached this milestone:

Austin Okocha
Austin “Jay-Jay” Okocha was more than a player—he was a performer, capable of dazzling fans with moments of unexpected brilliance.

His European journey began at Eintracht Frankfurt, where he played 116 matches, 90 of them in the Bundesliga, showcasing his daring skills and creativity. He later moved to Paris Saint-Germain, appearing in 113 games, including 84 in Ligue 1 and six in the UEFA Champions League.

In England, Okocha mesmerized at Bolton Wanderers, making 145 appearances, 124 of them in the Premier League. He became the creative heartbeat of the team, celebrated not just for his talent but for the artistry with which he expressed it.

Nwankwo Kanu
Where Okocha amazed, Nwankwo Kanu seemed effortless. At Arsenal, he made 197 appearances in all competitions, with 119 in the Premier League, scoring 44 goals and helping the club secure multiple FA Cup triumphs.

At Portsmouth, he added 166 appearances, including exactly 100 Premier League matches, and etched his name in history with the winning goal in the 2008 FA Cup final against Cardiff City—a moment still celebrated in English football lore.

Obafemi Martins
Known for his blistering pace and direct attacking style, Obafemi Martins was a nightmare for defenders.

At Inter Milan, he featured in 136 games, scoring 49 goals, with 88 appearances in Serie A and nine goals in 25 Champions League matches. A move to Newcastle United saw him reach 104 appearances overall, 88 in the Premier League, scoring 28 league goals and six times in nine UEFA Cup outings.

Yakubu Aiyegbeni
Yakubu built a reputation on consistency and deadly efficiency. At Middlesbrough, he made 104 appearances, netting 35 goals, including 25 in 73 Premier League games. At Everton, he continued this form, registering 107 appearances and 33 goals, with four strikes in eight UEFA Cup matches.

Alex Iwobi
The modern standard-bearer, Alex Iwobi, is the only active player in this elite group. His career has been defined by reliability and longevity.

Starting at Arsenal, he made 149 appearances, including 100 in the Premier League and 17 in the Europa League. At Everton, he added 140 matches, 123 of them in the league. Now at Fulham, Iwobi recently marked his 100th appearance for the club, 88 in the Premier League. Across Arsenal, Everton, and Fulham, he has accumulated 311 Premier League appearances, a remarkable achievement for a player still in his prime.

Iwobi and his uncle Okocha are the only Nigerians to have reached 100 appearances for three different clubs in Europe’s top five leagues.

Honourable Mentions
Joseph Yobo surpassed 100 appearances for Everton but falls short because his second century came at Fenerbahçe, outside Europe’s top five leagues. Similarly, Kelechi Iheanacho reached 100 appearances for Leicester City but only had 64 for Manchester City, leaving him short of the multiple-club milestone.
