Certificate Scandal Rocks Politics: Inibehe Effiong Demands Immediate Suspension Of Nnaji
Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately suspend the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Uche Nnaji, over allegations of certificate forgery.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Effiong described the allegations as “grave and disturbing,” stressing that such inconsistencies should never have slipped through Nnaji’s screening before his appointment.
The lawyer noted that discrepancies in Nnaji’s academic records, coupled with conflicting statements from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), demanded urgent investigation.
According to Effiong, the minister should step down and submit himself to the police for questioning.
“How did these inconsistencies escape the scrutiny of the Nigerian State Security Service?” Effiong asked. “The DSS has maintained a conspiratorial silence. This minister must be suspended immediately pending the outcome of a thorough probe. Otherwise, the government will be telling Nigerians that it is one of certificate forgers and impunity.”
Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) said it was not surprised that President Tinubu has kept Nnaji in office despite the scandal.
In a statement on Monday signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party accused the government of tolerating corruption at the highest levels.
The ADC described the situation as a disservice to the nation, arguing that with so many Nigerians of proven integrity and competence, it is shameful for a man with allegedly forged documents to head a ministry meant to drive innovation.
