Challenge, Unity, Post Office Barriers: PDP Pledges To End Economic Strangulation If Elected!

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has criticized the decision of the Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq-led administration to construct barriers in key commercial districts of Ilorin, the state capital.

the incumbent government, led by the All Progressives Congress (APC), has erected barricades in prominent business hubs such as Challenge, Unity, and Post Office as part of its infrastructural development efforts.

The opposition PDP, however, views this move as economic sabotage. In a statement issued on Monday, January 13, 2025, the party described the barriers as a deliberate attempt to undermine the livelihoods of local business owners, particularly small-scale entrepreneurs and youth who rely on these areas for their income.

The statement, signed by the state PDP Chairman, Babatunde Mohammed, expressed solidarity with the affected individuals and assured them that these barriers would be removed if the PDP assumes power in the 2027 gubernatorial election.

“The PDP sympathizes deeply with all victims of this draconian economic strangulation scheme, especially those protesting this despicable act by the government,” the statement read.

The party further emphasized that the barriers have restricted access to thriving small businesses, describing the move as a lack of empathy and consideration for the devastating economic impact on business owners, their families, and the broader community.

“The PDP assures that, if elected in 2027, a PDP-led government will prioritize the immediate removal of these oppressive barriers, restoring access and opportunities for businesses to flourish,” the statement concluded.

The party called on affected entrepreneurs and residents to remain hopeful, pledging a better future under its leadership.
