In a distressing turn of events, the residence of the late former Governor of Benue State, Late Aper Aku, located in the Gboko area of the state, was engulfed in flames by hoodlums. Naija News brings the unfortunate report, noting that Late Aku held the distinction of being the inaugural civilian Governor of the North Central state.

According to gathered information, the incident transpired on Monday, with the occupants safely evacuated from the premises by law enforcement authorities. The daughter of the late governor, Deborah Aku, recounted the harrowing experience to reporters in Markurdi on Tuesday, expressing gratitude for the timely intervention of the Police, who rescued six individuals from the premises before the hoodlums set it ablaze.

Trouble reportedly commenced in March when an individual wielding a cutlass allegedly threatened the household, blaming them for his goat’s demise after purportedly drinking water from their property. Aku disclosed that her mother promptly reported the incident to the Gboko Police Division, leading to legal action. However, the situation escalated on Monday morning when a large group of hoodlums descended on the residence, trapping its occupants.

Describing the chaotic scene, Aku detailed how the attackers vandalized the property, destroyed valuables, and even assaulted law enforcement personnel who arrived on the scene. Despite the efforts of the Police to contain the situation, the house was ultimately consumed by flames, leaving behind a trail of devastation.

Aku emphasized the urgency for thorough investigations into the matter and revealed that relevant authorities, including the governor and Speaker, have been notified of the distressing incident, particularly considering its occurrence within the Speaker’s constituency.
