In a statement released by the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, the government said it took the enforcement action after discovering that the school was discharging untreated faecal waste and wastewater into the surrounding area. This led to a strong, unpleasant stench, causing discomfort for nearby residents.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, revealed that the waste was being pumped illegally into the drainage system, a clear breach of environmental laws.

He added that the school was sealed on Saturday after repeated warnings to its management were ignored. Wahab warned that the state would not hesitate to penalize institutions or individuals who flout environmental standards.

“The government will not condone any form of environmental abuse. Offending facilities will face stiff penalties, including possible prosecution,” Wahab said, stressing that all environmental pollution poses serious risks to public health and would be dealt with accordingly.
