The anti-graft agency highlighted that corruption has deeply eroded Nigeria’s economic and social foundations, calling on citizens to exhibit the courage required to expose corrupt practices.

This message was delivered during an event organized by the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board.

In a presentation titled From Fear to Courage: Overcoming Barriers to Whistleblowing in Nigeria, Usiere underscored the critical role of courage in tackling corruption, warning that without bold action, Nigeria risks being consumed by the menace.

She stated, “The devastating impact of corruption has crippled Nigeria, leading to economic stagnation and socio-political decay. If we do not address corruption, it will inevitably destroy Nigeria. This is why an effective whistleblowing mechanism is essential in our fight against corruption.

“To blow the whistle effectively, citizens must embody courage—the absence of fear. Overcoming cultural, psychological, and systemic barriers is crucial to addressing corruption and other societal ills.

“This program is both timely and vital, aimed at encouraging participants to discard fear and embrace courage in whistleblowing. If we are to combat corruption in Nigeria and minimize its impact, we must adopt a fearless mindset and take bold action.

“If you see something, say something. If you hear something, say something.”
