Colorado-Induced Violence: Ondo Man Charged With Murder After Fatal Cylinder Attack On Friend

In Ondo state, law enforcement authorities have brought charges against a 24-year-old man named Peter Adebayo, accusing him of fatally injuring his friend, Lekan Raji, using a cooking gas cylinder after both had reportedly consumed the illicit substance known as “Colorado.”

The Akure Magistrate court was informed by Police prosecutor, Inspector Taiwo Oniyere, that the alleged incident occurred on February 23, 2024, at Ireakari Street, Akure. Adebayo purportedly struck Lekan on the head with the gas cylinder in response to Lekan questioning his behavior.

According to Inspector Oniyere, “The deceased came home on that day and was not happy with the way the defendant was misbehaving. So, he challenged him. But the defendant who was under the influence of ‘Colorado’ hit the deceased with the cylinder. So, he fell and died.”

The charges filed against Adebayo cite violations of Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37 Vol. 1 of Ondo State 2006.

During the court proceedings, the defendant did not enter a plea. Inspector Oniyere requested the court to remand Adebayo at the Olokuta Correctional Centre in Akure until legal advice is received from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
