Commuters Stranded In Abuja As Fuel Prices Surge To N855 per Litre

Commuters reported that the cost of their journeys had nearly doubled by the afternoon. Amina Yusuf, a clerk, recounted that her morning fare of N1,000 from Gudu to Garki had nearly doubled by the time she left work, leaving her and others struggling at Phototech junction until a colleague helped her out.

Kingsley Okoye expressed frustration over the fare hikes, which he said strained his finances. He noted that the fare from Apo to Gudu had increased from N250 to N400, forcing him to withdraw additional cash to avoid being stranded.

Jennifer Fabian, who previously paid N200 for travel from Nyanya to the city center, saw her fare jump to N600 following the fuel price increase. She now faces a fare of N1,200, which she finds excessive given her income. Fabian criticized the government for its policies, citing widespread suffering since the removal of the fuel subsidy.

Ahmed Musa, a trader at Wuse Market, described how his transport costs had doubled from N300 to N600 for a one-way trip. He expressed concern over the impact on his business and the additional burden on parents with the upcoming school term. Musa called for urgent government intervention to address the situation.
