The House of Representatives issued a call on Wednesday for the Federal Government to expedite its inquiry into the suspension of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu. During discussions in the Green Chambers, concerns were raised regarding the adverse effects of halting these crucial programs amid increasing hunger and inflation rates in the country. Additionally, the House voiced unease about the proposal to transfer the management of the social investment programme to Minister of Finance, Olawale Edun, deeming it an unusual move.

The House of Representatives underscored the importance of a swift investigation into the suspended minister of humanitarian affairs by the Federal Government. They emphasized the need to address the disruption caused by the suspension and its repercussions on vital social programs.

In a related development, the Majority Leader of the Red Chamber, Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, confirmed that Senators received N500 million for constituency projects. Bamidele urged patience from Nigerians, asserting that the funds would be utilized over the next 12 months for projects such as boreholes, solar street lights, road construction, training, and empowerment.

The confirmation by Bamidele followed a previous claim by Senator Jarigbe Jarigbe during a rowdy Senate session on Tuesday. Jarigbe alleged that some “senior senators” received N500 million each in the 2024 budget for constituency projects. He called for transparency in investigating the budget and constituency projects, asserting that accountability should be upheld among all senators.
