This warning follows Shettima’s sudden cancellation of his appearance at the Commonwealth Summit in Samoa. The cancellation was prompted by an incident at JFK Airport in New York, where the aircraft was severely damaged after colliding with a foreign object during a stopover.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, reported that the aircraft’s windscreen and other essential components were compromised, preventing the Vice President from traveling.

In a statement from Maiduguri, Lawan urgently called on the Federal Government to acquire a new aircraft for Shettima. He stressed that the current plane has experienced multiple incidents, jeopardizing the safety of the Vice President and raising concerns about its reliability.

Lawan expressed his sympathies for the Nigerian Government and Shettima’s team over the JFK incident. He thanked Allah for the Vice President’s safety and urged the Nigerian government to seek a thorough investigation from the U.S. regarding the incident.

He concluded by reiterating the urgent need for a new aircraft to ensure the safety of Vice President Shettima and his officials, to prevent further aviation mishaps.
